In 2006 I began thinking about walking the Underground Railroad in search of my blackness. The Underground Railroad Project encompasses the research that happened in preparation for the walk, the documentation that occurred during it, and my contemplations after the 440 miles were completed in 2008. Through my research, I decided to begin at the birthplace of Josiah Henson (who was the basis for Harriet Beecher Stowes novel Uncle Toms Cabin) and journey to the historical site of Uncle Toms Cabin, which is located in the Dawn settlement in Dresden, Ontario.
